A runny nose can be extremely annoying and is usually a common part of the cold cycle. Children tend to suffer more from runny noses than adults do; at least 8-12 times a year. In adults, a runny nose could accompany a viral or bacterial infection or a seasonal allergy. Runny nose is generally harmless but it could sometimes lead to other infections including ear infections, sinusitis etc.
What causes runny nose?
Runny nose, as stated above, is usually caused by a common cold. It may be accompanied by chills, aches or fever. This type of runny nose usually gets better by itself and you do not need to take any special medicine to get rid of it. The mucus discharge may be yellowish or greenish in color or even plain watery. As the virus progresses, the mucus could change color. Green colored mucus does not necessarily signify an infection. However, if you are running a fever of more than 100 F (or 39 C) or also having a harsh cough, then it is best to see a doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics.
Allergies can also lead to runny noses. They are accompanied by other symptoms like itchy eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing, or asthma. This kind of runny nose can last for weeks, even months.
Excess crying can also give rise to running nose, which is cured once the tears stop.
In majority of the cases, a runny nose is an indication of the body regulating itself to adjust to certain medication, external environment, stress, even spicy food!
How to stop a runny nose quickly?
Sometimes, the best treatment for runny nose is to let it run its course. The mucus that comes out of the nose helps discharge the viruses and bacteria causing the infection. If you are having trouble breathing or sleeping, you can blow out your nose or try one of the following remedies.
1. Saline or salt water rinse
A warm salt water rinse is one of the best and fastest ways to clear out runny noses. Rinsing out the sinuses with salt water can help you get rid of seasonal allergies.
How to: Mix one cup of clean filtered water with a teaspoon of natural sea salt. Pour a few drops in the nose. You can also use a Neti pot to rinse out the sinuses with the saline water. Let the water go in one nostril and come out of the other.
2. Breast milk- the best remedy for runny nose in babies
In very young infants who are still nursing, this remedy works wonderfully to clear out blocked noses and stop the watery nasal discharge.
How to: Simple squeeze in some breast milk in the infants nose to break up the mucus. Wait for a few seconds then encourage the child to blow out the nose or use a bulb syringe to suction out the mucous.
3. Fenugreek tea
Fenugreek tea is an excellent herbal remedy that can help break down the mucus and also clear up the sinuses.
How to: To make the tea, add 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds or powder to 1 cup of water. Boil the mixture and let it steep for 10 minutes. Fenugreek has a bitter taste, so add some honey and lemon to this tea to make it palatable. This remedy must be avoided by pregnant women or children under the age of 2 years.
4. Aromatic essential oil remedies
This is a wonderful natural remedy to clear up congestion and nasal discharge in children and adults. Aromatic essential oils are very strong, so use them in a diffuser. You can use any oil like rosemary, camphor, menthol, eucalyptus or peppermint oils. They all help clear out blocked, runny noses.
How to: Add 2-3 drops of your favorite oil in the diffuser or humidifier and run it in your bedroom at night. For very severe colds, mix the oil with 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and apply it to your feet. You could also suck on menthol lozenges or apply a menthol chest rub on the chest, back, nose, forehead and feet. You can apply a few drops of aromatic oils on a tissue paper and inhale it every now and then.
5. Increase your fluid intake
The best way to clear out the mucus and stop runny nose quickly is to drink copious amounts of fluids. This will loosen the mucus up and eliminate it out through urine.
How to: Apart from drinking 8-10 glasses of plain water, also drink herbal tea, freshly made fruit/vegetable juices, clear soups and stews etc. Drink plenty of hot beverages to loosen the mucus up and get instant relief from runny or blocked nose.
6. Steam inhalation
Steam inhalation is one of the oldest and best folk remedies to relieve stuffy, runny and severely congested noses.
How to: Boil water in a steam inhaler. Position your head carefully over the steamer and cover it with a towel. Inhale the steam for at least 10 minutes. You can make this remedy even more potent by adding a few drops of essential oils to the water (eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil or camphor oil work best.) You can also add a teaspoon of Vicks Vaporub® to the steamer and inhale the vapors arising to relieve the nasal discharge quickly.
7. Decongestant sprays
Many good quality nasal decongestant sprays are available in the market, using which you can relieve all kinds of upper respiratory symptoms.
How to: Cover one nostril and spray in the other nostril. Cover that one and spray in the other nostril. In case of seasonal allergies, you might want to try steroidal nasal sprays. However, avoid using them for more than two days as they can get absorbed by the body and cause thinning of the mucosa.
8. Take antihistamine
Antihistamines can help relieve severe runny nose and/or nasal congestion. They are particularly recommended for people suffering from seasonal allergies.
How to: Your doctor will prescribe antihistamine medicine. Many over-the-counter antihistamines can also give you much needed relief. Note that many of these medicines can cause drowsiness. So, avoid driving or operating machinery when using them.
9. Reduce allergens in your environment
Dust, smoke, pollen etc are the main allergens that can give rise to runny nose. Try and reduce your exposure to them.
How to: Venture outdoors in late afternoon instead of early morning when smoke, mold and pollen are higher. You can also invest in good air filters to reduce dust inside your home. Vacuum the house and clean all surfaces to reduce your indoor exposure to allergens.
10. Clean and launder using eucalyptus oil
A study conducted in Australia showed that laundering linen, blankets and bed sheets with eucalyptus oil helped reduce the percentage of dust mites by nearly 95%.
How to: Mix one part liquid dishwashing detergent with 5-6 drops of eucalyptus oil, ½ cup white vinegar and 1 cup hot water. Fill this up in a spray bottle. Use the spray all over your linen, bedding, furniture etc to reduce allergens.
When to see a doctor?
If your runny nose symptoms last for more than week, the mucous color changes or you develop some other symptoms like pain in the ears, skin rash etc then it is time to see a doctor. You might need antibiotics to get rid of the infection.
Gas. Flatulence. Bloating. Everyone gets it. Men and women produce nearly 4-5 pints of gas per day and most people are known to pass gas as many as 12 times per day! Abdominal gas can be embarrassing and, while it is completely natural, it can be problematic if it is produced in excess. The pain of passing gas is more social than physical.
In this guide, we will cover effective remedies to get rid of gas or bloating quickly and naturally without relying on conventional medicines.
What causes gas?
There are two main factors that produce gas in the intestine:
The air that we swallow with food and beverages..
The bacteria in the intestine that produce gas while the food is being digested.
Gas is a natural byproduct of the digestion process. Our GI tract (the gastro-intestinal tract) already consists of gases like oxygen and nitrogen which mix with pancreatic juices and bile to produce carbon dioxide. In some cases, people have difficulty digesting certain foods which are then passed to the large intestine where the bacteria try to ‘eat it’ resulting in excess gas as byproduct. Thus, our eating habits and genetic makeup can all affect the amount of gas we produce.
Ironically some of the healthiest foods are also known to be the most gas producing: eggs, broccoli, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant, garlic and radishes are known to be some of the gassiest foods. If you are prone to gas, it is best that you minimize your intake of such foods.
Also, people who are lactose intolerant find it hard to digest dairy products which produce excess gas. This pressure builds up in the stomach and comes out of the body in the form of belching or smelly farts.
Here are some other reasons for flatulence:
Smoking invariably causes the smoker to swallow air which can cause bloating and flatulence.
Gassy foods and beverages
A list of gassy foods includes, as already stated above, broccoli, beans, certain vegetables, dairy products, eggs etc. Many foods rich in fiber are often hard to digest and can lead to gas. Carbonated beverages and alcoholic drinks like beer can also cause flatulence.
Improper eating habits
People who eat hurriedly, or do not take the time to chew their food can also suffer from gas. Also sipping liquids through straws can lead to excess gas. In babies who are bottle fed, colic is a common issue owing to the excess air that gets inside.
Stress and anxiety play an important role in your digestion. Excess stress increases certain hormones that could, in turn, impact the digestive processes and lead to bloating and flatulence. Stress also affects your eating habits.
Certain underlying health issues
Certain diseases, gastrointestinal infections, blockages in the GI tracts or lactose intolerance can all cause excess farting and belching. Many times, the drugs given to treat these issues can also cause gas. Irritable bowel syndrome is accompanied by gas. Celiac disease is another major cause of gas where the patient is unable to digest or absorb certain components of food such as gluten.
15 Effective Ways To Get Rid of Gas and Bloating Fast
Many conventional medicines are available for treating symptoms of gas and flatulence. However; if you have a chronic problem, taking medication can lead to side effects. On the contrary, home remedies are a lot safer and can put a stop to the ‘sputtering’. Here is how you can prevent gas:
1. Keep a food journal and eliminate certain foods
Note down the foods you eat each day. Observe if there is a trend. The day you feel bloated and gassy, what did you eat? Now try and reduce the intake of those foods. Does it make a difference in your symptoms? Eliminating foods you are allergic to can reduce gas and bloating without the need for conventional medicines that have side effects.
2. Use activated charcoal
Many people swear by this home remedy. Activated charcoal absorbs excess gas from the intestine and also detoxifies your body to prevent bloating and flatulence. Charcoal also traps the undigested food bits that turn to gas and eliminates them from the body.
3. Fennel seeds
Fennel seeds contain many gas eliminating compounds that can relieve gas, flatulence in adults and coli symptoms in babies. Chewing on fennel seeds after meals can get the digestive juices flowing which can reduce gases. In case of younger children, boil a few teaspoons of fennel seeds in water and give the strained liquid to the child to drink several times a day. Adults may chew on fennel seeds as is; they taste sweet and you could even enhance the taste by roasting them with some salt.
4. Use Beano® in cooking
Liquid enzymes like Beano® help eliminate gas causing compounds in foods like beans. So sprinkle some when cooking beans to prevent getting gassy after eating them. Beano® is readily available in drugstores.
There are many Yoga poses that help reduce gas in the stomach.
Lie down on a mat and pull up your knees up to the chest. Hold both knees with each hand and lift your upper body so that your chin touches the knees. Now rock slowly from side to side and back and forth. Perform this exercise each morning to relieve gas and constipation.
You can also go for simple exercises like walking, cycling, running, swimming etc to reduce gassiness. Regular exercise can also reduce stress and anxiety to stop bloating.
6. Dandelion tea
This is one of the best natural remedies for bloating, gas and flatulence. It is particularly recommended to women who suffer from bloating during their periods or just before the menstrual period due to PMS. Sipping on dandelion tea three to four times a day can stimulate digestion and reduce gas. To make dandelion tea, boil the root or one teaspoon of dandelion herb powder to a cup of water. Let the mixture steep for a few minutes.

Tips to prevent gas in babies and infants
In babies, gas problems arise because of under developed digestive system. Bottle fed babies are also more likely to develop gas as they invariably swallow air with the milk. Here are some remedies to prevent gas in babies:
Burp the baby after each feed.
Bicycle the baby’s legs to keep air circulating. The pressure will help release the gas and also enable the baby to pass stools. Talk to the baby in a soothing voice. Sing to the baby and smile when you do this.
Massage the baby’s tummy with mustard oil. Daily massage with mustard oil will relax the baby and also enable the gas to come out. This remedy can also strengthen the baby’s muscles and bones and help it sleep better.
Hot compress-Dip a soft clean cloth in hot water. Wring out the excess and apply it on the baby’s tummy area. This remedy can even be used by adults to get the excess gas moving and relieve pain and flatulence.
There are many health conditions which may not be serious but can be extremely embarrassing. Gas or flatulence is one of them. Stomach gases can also cause discomfort and passing it can embarrass you and those around you. Many drug store medicines are available to reduce gas and bloating, but they often come with side effects. Your best bet is to rely on natural home remedies to cure gas permanently. You must also learn to observe what you eat and avoid those foods that give rise to excess gas. Do ensure avoiding carbonated beverages, sodas and beers as well as foods like beans and broccoli to prevent these unpleasant effects from happening.
The Human Growth Hormone is often mistaken as something a man takes for TRT. TRT, however, stands for testosterone replacement therapy and obviously HGH and Testosterone is not the same compound. While both are hormones, they perform 2 different functions and work in different ways. However when taken together, testosterone and HGH form part of a Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that fights aging and prevents a host of aging related medical conditions.
What role does the Human Growth Hormone play in a HRT?
HGH is produced by the pituitary gland and is released into the bloodstream. It then travels to the liver and stimulates the production of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1). It directly impacts cell growth, regeneration and DNA synthesis. It was initially used to help children with growth hormone deficiencies grow a few extra inches. But afterwards, people from all walks of life, from pro athletes and body builders to Hollywood actors tapped into the power of HGH’S anti-aging properties.
There are two ways of using HGH on its own; you can either use it in massive doses to improve fat loss and increase muscle size or smaller doses for various facets of your general well being such as improved quality of sleep, faster muscle recovery and for anti-aging. A high dose of HGH should be around 8 ius (international units).
Unless a man is recovering from a really beat up body or, a serious medical condition they should never consider using HGH, unless they are over 40 years. Young men have to take huge HGH amounts to notice anything. But 50 to 60 year olds, on the other hand, respond remarkably well to small doses of HGH. This is because the body produces less HGH as a man gets older. What’s more, at an advanced age, it doesn’t make the body grow, it makes it heal. At a daily dose of about 2 to 4 ius, chronic nagging injuries will slowly disappear or be less intense and your skin will become moister and suppler. It may even start glowing.
What role does testosterone play in a HRT?
Testosterone supplementation in men is one of the fastest growing areas in pharmacology today. The hormone itself is an androgen primarily produced in the testicles of men. Women produce smaller amounts of it in their ovaries and both men and women produce trace amounts of it in the adrenal glands. Low testosterone level is a major concern for many men and millions of Americans currently use a patch, prescription gel or injection to restore their T levels to normal.
Many do this to prevent a condition called hypogonadism. It is clinical condition whereby low levels of serum testosterone are found, often accompanied with specific signs and symptoms. The condition is also referred to as androgen deficiency or andropause when it occurs in older men. The most easily recognised clinical signs of andropause are a decrease in muscle mass and strength, a decrease in bone mass and osteoporosis and an increase in central body fat. Other symptoms, though harder to measure and substantiate also occur. These include a decreased in sexual desire and libido, loss of memory, forgetfulness, anaemia, insomnia, difficulty in concentration and a diminished sense of well being.
Restoring T levels to within the normal range by using T replacement therapy can improve many of the effects of hypogonadism. Some of the benefits of TRT include:
* Improved sexual desire, function and performance
* Improved bone mineral density
* Improved body composition, strength and muscle mass
* Improved moods, energy and quality of life
* Improved cognitive function
* Decreased risk of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes
* Decreased risk of anaemia
How to determine whether you are a candidate for TRT
There are two ways that practitioner use to determine whether an individual has low testosterone or not. One is a blood test and the other is by characteristic signs and symptoms. Generally, men with the lowest levels of testosterone have the most symptoms while those with high levels have the least. There however are a few who exhibit no symptoms despite having very low testosterone levels in their blood. According to the American Endocrine society, low testosterone is when levels fall below 300 ng/dl.
What forms of testosterone and HGH are used in a HRT formulation?
That testosterone and HGH supply us with many benefits is beyond debate. It is the options for acquiring and using the two that can be a little confusing. HGH is a polypeptide hormone. This means it is composed of a long chain of amino acids, 191 to be exact. There are essentially 4 options for getting HGH into the body: injection, oral intake of HGH in the form of HGH releasers, secretagogues or precursors in the form of pills and powder and non-prescription sprat that contain homeopathic HGH that increase normal HGH production in the pituitary gland.
Testosterone on the other hand, can either be endogenous or exogenous. Testosterone replacement therapy refers to use of exogenous testosterone to treat hypogonadism. Exogenous testosterone is artificially synthesized outside the body. Though not recommended, some people use endogenous testosterone by taking clomiphene citrate (Clomid) to boost the production of natural testosterone, also called endogenous testosterone. This is however, not approved by the FDA which means that only exogenous testosterone, whether delivered orally, as a transdermally, bucally or sublingually, or via subdermall implants is approved for use in testosterone and HGH HRTS.
Taking HGH and Testosterone together
Many people prefer taking HGH and testosterone together since the two work synergistically very well together. A person who is already taking HGH supplementation will enhance the effects of HGH on the body when he combines it with testosterone. However, it is important that a hormone replacement therapy that includes these tow hormone be taken under medical supervision.
This is because the two are related and testosterone has been proven to increase HGH production. HGH will also stimulate the testes into producing testosterone when needed. Working together, the two hormones can produce very positive benefit for the body when working together.
The benefits of HGH and testosterone therapy
Here is a summary of what a testosterone and HGH HRT will do to the body:
* Over a six month period of time, HGH will work alone to burn body fat by increasing metabolism.
* Testosterone on its own will help build muscle mass and increase body strength
* HGH will play a key role in repairing and strengthening tissues, cells, ligaments and muscles.
* HGH tends to be more expensive than testosterone.
Vomiting yellow bile is not an indication of something serious in most cases; however, you must not ignore it. Throwing up or vomiting by itself means that something is not right with your system. Vomiting can also can lead to pain, dizziness and severe dehydration. In this guide, we will cover some important causes of vomiting yellow bile and also some remedies to prevent it.
What are common causes of vomiting yellow bile?
To understand the common reasons behind vomiting yellow bile, let us first study what bile is.
The bile is an important digestive juice secreted in the gut to digest the food pulp in the small intestine. It is secreted by the liver which is the largest gland in the body, situated in the upper right hand side of the abdomen. Bile is yellowish green in color and is secreted along with other digestive juices from the pancreas through small ducts that open out into the intestine. Along with other pancreatic juices, the bile work on fats, oils and starches in our food helping the stomach digest them.
A small sphincter prevents the bile and other digestive juices from entering the stomach. However, in some cases, this sphincter opens up causing these digestive juices to mix up with food bits and enter the esophagus in a backward flow. When this occurs, you experience nausea and subsequent vomiting. If you have been vomiting yellow bile for several days, it is important to seek immediate medical help and failure to do so can lead to terrible complication.
Here are some of the most common reasons for throwing up yellow bile:
1. Certain drugs
Several drugs especially those used for treating cancer as well as aesthetics administered during surgery can lead to severe nausea and ejaculation of stomach contents. The vomit may be brown in the beginning, but repeated vomiting can cause the bile to flow out leading to pale or dark yellow colored vomit.
Infections inside and outside the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) can all cause vomiting yellow bile. Such infections are usually caused by viruses or bacteria. Cholecystitis (infection of the gall bladder), appendicitis, viral hepatitis, jaundice and diverticulitis are some examples of infections inside the GI tract. Likewise, infections outside the GI tract such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, kidney infections, and meningitis or ear infections can also cause throwing up with bile. In such cases, the vomiting stops once the infection is treated.
3. Bowel or intestinal obstruction or blockage
A bowel or intestinal blockage or obstruction hampers the natural digestion processes. This leads to gas, bloating and pain along with throwing up yellow bile and food bits. There are many diseases and conditions responsible for intestinal obstruction including autoimmune disorders, spine fractures, pancreatitis, abscess, sickle cell disease, certain cancers and Crohn’s disease etc.
4. Bile reflux gastritis
Bile reflux gastritis is also called duodenal gastric reflux and may arise after surgical procedures such as gall stone removal as well as from peptic ulcers. Patients could throw up yellow bile and may also suffer from severe heartburn, nausea, discomfort and abdominal pain. Lack of appetite can also result which leads to unhealthy weight loss. It is very important to seek immediate medical help if you have been experiencing yellow bile vomiting and these symptoms.
5. Head and neck related issues
Migraines, headaches, brain and nervous system related disorders, tumor in brain, seizures, head trauma or injuries and multiple sclerosis can all cause yellow bile vomiting.
6. Smoking, drugs and alcohol intake
Excess alcohol, drugs and nicotine can cause accumulation of acetaldehyde in the stomach which leads to symptoms like facial flushing, severe nausea and vomiting yellow bile. Many of these substances also interact with each other leading to undesirable side effects.
7. Food poisoning
Bacterial toxins in food lead to inability of digesting the food. As a result, the person may experience severe nausea and vomiting yellow bile until all of the toxins are eliminated from the body. It is very important to keep yourself hydrated when this occurs. If symptoms persist for over 24 hours, seek medical help.
8. Psychiatric issues
Many psychological issues like stress, depression, anxiety or panic attacks as well as anorexia bulimia or bulimia nervosa can cause vomiting in patients. Some anorexic patients force themselves to vomit over and over after eating in order to prevent weight gain. This type of vomiting usually brings up the bile.
9. Viral Gastroenteritis
Viral gastroenteritis or stomach flu causes millions of people to suffer from throwing up yellow bile, diarrhea and a host of other symptoms. It is essential to drink plenty of fluids to replace the lost ones.
10. Food intolerances and allergies
Many food groups like wheat, gluten, dairy and peanuts can lead to food intolerances and allergies, which means that the stomach is just not able to digest them. If someone with a food allergy eats food which his stomach is sensitive to, it triggers the immune system to throw out the offending food. This can cause excess vomiting with yellow bile.
11. Heart attack
Heart attack can sometimes manifest as gas, belching, bloating, nausea and vomiting. If, at this point, the stomach is empty, then the yellow green bile can come out during the vomiting episode. Seek immediate medical assistance if this type of vomiting is accompanied by chest pains, difficulty in breathing, tightness in the shoulders or jaw etc.
12. Cyclic vomiting syndrome
Cyclic vomiting leads to episodes of vomiting which can last for few hours or several days. The person suffering from this syndrome vomits repeatedly until there is greenish yellow bile coming out. Doctors do not know the exact triggers for cyclic vomiting syndrome or CVS.
13. Hormonal factors
Your hormones can sometimes make you very sick. Hormonal disorders including overactive thyroid, diabetes, and underactive thyroid glands or Addison’s disease can also lead to throwing up repeatedly with presence of yellow bile.
14. Other causes
Repeated fasting with empty stomach, pregnancy related morning sickness, slow intestinal movement or gastroparesis, radiation therapy, kidney problems, physical pain, motion sickness, etc are some other factors that may cause throwing up yellow bile. Obesity is also a little-known cause behind throwing up yellow bile. It helps to lose weight in such cases.
How to stop throwing up yellow bile?
Identify the cause of vomiting
This is the first thing to do in order to stop vomiting yellow bile. If, for example, smoking and alcohol intake is the cause, then you must take steps to quit these habits immediately. For patients with food intolerances or sensitivities, it helps to keep a food journal or diary. This can guide you in identifying the exact food group that may be triggering the nausea and vomiting. Once you have identified the cause, take all precautions to avoid these foods.
Eat small meals and stay hydrated
Empty stomach, excess fasting as well as over indulgence in food are also factors that lead to throwing up yellow bile. It is essential to eat 4-6 small, frequent meals in order to avoid this. Keep an eye on what you eat and avoid spicy, oily and sugary foods. Also stay away from caffeinated drinks, sodas and alcoholic beverages. Drink plenty of water to make up for fluid loss. If your stomach is queasy, eat a few crackers and take small sips of water. You can also take stews, soups or broths.
Herbal remedies for preventing vomiting
Many herbs can prevent vomiting including ginger, cinnamon, mint etc while herbs like yellowdock prevent over-production of bile and calm the stomach. You can steep these into a tea or take a bit of the dried powder mixed with cool water and sip it every few hours. Take plenty of bed rest. If motion sickness is a cause of throwing up yellow bile, suck on some ginger candy during travel.
Medicines for vomiting
Patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy may be given medications (phenothiazines or antihistamines) to prevent symptoms of nausea and vomiting. These may be taken before therapy or right after surgery. In pregnant women, taking vitamin B6 supplements can suppress morning sickness related nausea and vomiting. For people with severe motion sickness, it helps to take anti-emetic medications before travel to prevent symptoms.
Hypnosis is a proven therapy for treating vomiting, the fear of vomiting as well as severe nausea stemming from psychological issues, anxiety disorders, anorexia bulimia or bulimia nervosa. This therapy aims to relax the patient and has been known to successfully treat patients with psychogenic nausea.
Vomiting is unpleasant and throwing up yellow bile repeatedly can sometimes be serious. We hope this guide helps you identify the cause of vomiting yellow bile so you can correct the same and get much needed relief.
Our ribcage is made of 12 pairs of ribs each of which is attached to the breastbone in the front and side in the back. Pain in the rib cage or just beneath it can come on suddenly; one fine day you are normal, and the next, you are writhing in pain. It can either begin as a sharp shooting pain, or might feel like a stabbing, throbbing or dull kind of pain just below the ribs. In this article, we will discuss different factors that could trigger pain under the left rib cage as well as some home remedies to treat it naturally.
Causes Of Pain Under The Left Rib Cage
As stated above, rib cage pain on the left side can come on rather suddenly. Some people wake up in the morning and feel as if something has ‘twisted’ under the ribs. The pain continues to slowly increase over time. In some patients though, the pain just goes away as suddenly as it had come on.
Here are the possible causes of pain under left rib cage:
Costochondritis is the inflammation of the chest wall. It causes intense pain in the joints between the cartilages that connect the ribs to the breast bone. Though not a serious condition, it can cause great deal of discomfort and pain with every breath. No one exactly knows why costochondritis may occur in the first place but it may be brought about by shifting/moving heavy objects or decorating etc. The best way to treat this type of rib pain is to use hot packs, ice compress, acupuncture or gentle stretching exercise.
Heartburn, Gas, Ulcers and Stomach Issues
Hearturn and acid reflux or GERD can also be some of the not-so-scary causes of pain under the ribs on the left side. Our body naturally creates hydrochloric acid for digestion but excess of this acid in the stomach (attributed to improper diet, lack of adequate hydration, smoking, stress, anxiety, alcohol abuse as well as drugs like NSAIDs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs),aspirin etc) can all lead to heartburn, ulcers and reflux disease. These conditions can sometimes cause a dull, persistent pain under the left side of the ribs. Colitis, gastritis, gall bladder stones, Crohn’s Diseases and IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome can also lead to lower ribcage pain. Gas stuck in the colon can lead to a persistent pain under the lower ribs. This is a reverberating kind of pain that tends to move upwards and to the left side.
Kidney stones are nothing but hard calcium deposits which can shift and block urine passage even migrating up to the kidneys. When this occurs, it can lead to sharp shooting pain under the lower left or right side of ribs depending on which kidney it is. It is very important to seek immediate medical help for this kind of pain as it needs to be treated with medication and/or surgery.
Improper posture or strain during exercise
This is an important cause of rib joint pain under the left side of the rib cage. If you have a habit of slouching over your computer keyboard, Smart-phone or books, then you invariably cause a lot of stress on the chest and abdominal area. In some patients, improper posture could even cause swollen ribs and tight or taut muscles in the abdominal region which throb and hurt each time one breathes. This swelling and spasms of the muscles causes even more stress on the area under the rib cage. Sometimes, exercising improperly or too much can also cause strain on the upper abdominal muscles causing intense pain.
Cold and respiratory illnesses
Cold, coughs, asthmas and other respiratory illnesses that make you sneeze or cough a lot can also cause pain underneath the rib area. Patients with cough lasting for several weeks or months generally report this type of pain. Pleurisy can also cause inflammation of area under the rib cage. It leads to swelling and pain in area under the ribs and may be accompanied by fever. This type of pain usually goes away once the underlying respiratory illness gets better.
Damaged Spleen and Broken Ribs
Blunt trauma can also cause damage to the spleen. The spleen lies on the upper left part of the abdomen towards the side. In very serious cases, accidents can cause injury to the spleen leading to internal bleeding. Likewise, a broken rib is a very serious cause of rib cage pain or under-the-rib pain. Both these causes need immediate medical attention.
Punctured lung or fluid accumulation, pneumonia etc can also lead to pain under the left rib cage. This may be accompanied with other symptoms like difficulty in breathing etc. Do not ignore if the symptoms persist-seek immediate medical help.
Sometimes a pain in a herniated disc can also ‘feel’ like ribcage joint pain. If the muscles holding the shoulder blades are weakened or the chest muscles feel tight, then such referred pain may seem to originate in the region under the ribs.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a type of disorder that causes gas, bloating, cramps and the urge to ‘go’ but not able to move bowels. Some IBS sufferers experience chronic constipation; others suffer from persistent diarrhea. Though not serious, it can cause severe pain in the upper part of the stomach and abdominal cavity as well as beneath the ribs. Change of diet is the best remedy for treating IBS.
Pancreatitis leads to an upper abdominal pain that can be best described as “knifing” or ‘boring through the backside”. It can also cause nausea and vomiting along with a host of other symptoms. If the sharp pain persists, seek medical help immediately. Your doctor might order CT scans to confirm diagnosis.
Chest pain can also stem from heart disease or impending heart attacks. Pulmonary embolism, angina, pericardiatis are some other heart related issues which could sometimes cause a dull, throbbing pain on the lower side of the rib cage. This type of pain also takes the form of squeezing or tightness of chest that eventually shifts to the arm, jaw, back and other areas of the upper body.
Diagnosis of pain under left rib cage
Your doctor will diagnose the cause of pain by noting down your complete medical history. S/he will also check your posture. In most cases, X-rays or MRIs are not needed but these are not ruled out entirely. Your doctor will also consider following factors:
Is there excess burping? Is the pain eased by burping?
Are you bloated or have diarrhea?
Is there excess urination?
Has the color of feces/urine changed?
What factors make the pain better/worse? For example, does urination or defecation decrease/increase the pain?
Is the pain keeping you up at night?
Once the cause of your pain has been identified, your doctor will aim to relieve pain, improve mobility, get rid of swelling (if any) and also correct bad posture. In majority of the cases, it is necessary for the patient to modify his lifestyle, posture and bad habits that lead to stress on the rib joints. Your doctor may also suggest following treatment options apart from home remedies to manage the pain:
Mild aerobic exercises
Stretches, Yoga and home exercises
Soft tissue therapy like massage etc.
Posture braces to fix improper posture.
Over the counter medicines like Ibuprofen etc
Injections- These are anesthetic or steroidal and help the swelling go down.
In rare cases, the doctor might ask you to ignore the pain as it may go away in a few days.

A callus is a thick portion of the skin usually present on the hands or feet. Calluses form due to constant friction and irritation when the skin rubs against a hard surface. A foot callus occurs when the skin repeatedly brushes against the ground or due to poor quality footwear which causes excess pressure on the foot. If the thickening of skin occurs on top of the foot, it is called a corn, whereas the thickening of skin on the sole of the feet forms a callus. Thus, corns and calluses are quite similar apart from their location.
Let us study some best home remedies and treatment options to eliminate calluses on the feet. Before we do so, here are some important facts you ought to know about calluses.
Causes of Calluses on Feet
As stated above, calluses are manly caused by rubbing or friction on the feet.
Poor footwear is one of the most common causes of calluses.
Wearing heels and stilettos can also cause tremendous pressure on the balls of the feet and give rise to calluses and corns.
Deformities of the feet, such as being born with hammer toes can also lead to recurrent calluses.
Symptoms of Calluses
Corns and calluses both have a rough appearance. Callus have a raised, whitish appearance; the skin in the area turns rough and hard. Often, calluses are confused to be warts or verrucas.
Compared to corns, calluses are generally larger and thicker and are present on or near the balls of the feet as well as the heels or sides of the large toes. It is very important to wear shoes of the correct size in order to prevent calluses.
10 Easy ways to get rid of Calluses on the Feet
1. Soak the calluses in warm water
Soaking the calluses in warm water helps soften the skin of the callus. You can then use a pumice stone or a foot brush to scrub the dead skin layers away. Repeat this remedy every few days until the hardened skin is completely removed.
2. Change your footwear
This simple remedy may not help with your existing calluses but it can certainly prevent new ones. Correctly fitted shoes and fitted metatarsal bars can also prevent recurrent corns and calluses.
3. Get regular foot scrubs
Regularly scrub your feet with pumice stone treated with warm water and soap or using a foot scrub/pedicure file. These tools can remove layers of hardened skin and soften the callus considerably. You can also use an emery board for this purpose.
4. Use salicylic acid plasters
40% Salicylic acid plasters are readily available at drug stores. You need to cut a small piece of the plaster and cover up the callus with it (make sure you cut a slightly larger piece than the area covered by the thickened skin). Leave the plaster on the callus overnight. The next morning, remove the plaster then scrub the skin with a file or a pumice stone. This easy remedy will remove several layers of the hardened skin. Repeat this procedure 3-4 times a week until the callus falls off completely. However, patients with poor circulation or diabetes must not use 40% Salicylic acid plasters.
5. Treat them with essential Oils
Many aromatherapy essential oils like Tea Tree, Lavender, and Oregano can be used for softening the hardened callus. Apply undiluted tea tree oil all over the callus and cover it up with a piece of adhesive tape. Leave it overnight on the callus. The next day, soak your foot in a warm foot bath for 15 minutes. Follow this up with a thorough scrubbing of the callus. Repeat this remedy 3 times a week until the callus falls off.
6. Buy OTC callus removing products
Many over the counter callus removers like 12% Ammonium Lactate solution or carmal lotion can help soften calluses on the feet. Commercial corn and callus removers in the form of liquids are also available.
7. Use Onion slices
Onion and garlic juice has potent compounds to heal corns and calluses. You can cut some onion slices and press them on the callus. Tightly wrap a bandage around the slice so it is sticking to the callus. Let this remain for a few hours. When done regularly, this remedy can quickly heal a callus in 7 days.
8. Use Aspirin foot soak
Crush some Aspirin tablets and add them to a foot bath. Soak the feet in it. Aspirin contains natural salicylates that can remove hardened calluses. After 20 minutes, dry your feet and scrub the callus with a file. Repeat weekly.
9. Use Vinegar
Add a tablespoon of Vinegar to warm water and soak the feet in the mixture. Vinegar balances ph, kills germs and softens the skin. You can also add a tablespoon of baking soda to the mixture.
10. Use Lemon Juice
Squeeze half a lemon into the foot bath and soak in it for 20 minutes. The acidic action of lemon juice softens the skin and makes it easier to file off the callus.
Tips for Preventing Calluses
Tight and uncomfortable footwear is usually responsible for calluses. So make sure you change it immediately. Get your feet measured and then buy the shoes in correct size. Women must avoid heels which strain the balls of the feet.
Use gel pad inserts inside the footwear to prevent friction. A podiatrist can recommend where to apply the inserts to prevent friction and rubbing.
Wear socks inside shoes as far as possible.
Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces for prolonged periods.
When should you see A Doctor?
If your calluses are hurting or occurring repeatedly, then it is time to see a podiatrist. Recurrent calluses and corns could indicate an underlying health issue, weakened immunity or other serious health problems. Also, if the above remedies do not ease the pain, your doctor might suggest cortisone injections in the feet or the toes for relief.
Surgical/Conventional Treatment Options for Calluses on Feet
Mild calluses on the feet can be addressed with gel inserts and change of footwear. However, if the callus grows significantly, it can lower the quality of life. In such a case, your podiatrist may recommend cutting the callus to decrease its size. S/he will use a surgical blade to trim away the hardened skin. This is an in-office painless procedure as the skin is already dead.
Corns and calluses are not serious but they can be painful and unsightly. In people with diabetes or circulation problems, calluses can lead to some serious foot issues. If you are suffering from calluses pain, use the above remedies to get rid of them overnight.

Over the counter medicine
This ointment originates from China and it contains 7 traditional herbs namely; calamine, borax, amber, borneol, musk, artificial bezoars and pearl. It works by removing all the toxic materials from the anal area and clears away the decayed tissues while stimulating the growth of new ones and in effect, the inflammation shrinks. It also alleviates the pain associated with hemorrhoids by lubricating the dry skin around the anal area, thus facilitating bowel movements.
This is a local anesthetic that is used for pain relief. The ointment works by blocking the charged sodium channels that occur inside the cell membranes of the anal nerves, thus offering relief by blocking the transmission of pain at the skin before the pain can reach the nerves. In a nut shell, it works by numbing the nerves around the anal area so that the pain is manageable.
Anusol is a little bit different from many hemorrhoid ointments, especially with regards to its application. This corticosteroid is often applied topically and is mainly used to reduce the rashes and the burning sensation associated with hemorrhoids through its key agent, hydrocortisone. This agent mainly works by shrinking the inflamed veins associated with hemorrhoids and the shrinkage is escalated though the action of astringents such as bismuth oxide, bismuth subgallate and zinc oxide, all of which are included.
This ointment is preferred most due to its rich natural and safe ingredients. It is used to relieve the pain associated with internal hemorrhoids and anal fissures through some of its ingredients such as Vateria Indica, Lupinus Albus, Mentha Piperita and Aloe Vera. The most active ingredient, Aloe Vera, is especially preferred due to its anti-inflammatory action that enables it reduce the size of the hemorrhoids as well as promoting healing by reducing the itchiness and burning sensation.
There is a wide range of medications that have been recommended for hemorrhoids and we probably cannot exhaust the list. Perhaps what we should mention here is that most of these drugs can be obtained easily over the counter.

Kick hemorrhoids for good by use of these ointments and medications. Just a point of advise – be sure to check the reviews of these drugs should you want to buy them online and be sure to follow a prescription from a certified health professional.
If all the other methods doesn’t work or the situation gets worse (fiver), you may have to consider medical surgery.
There are two kinds of hemorrhoids surgery. The first one is Haemorrhoidectomy. This is the safest and the most common form of surgery. The surgery requires the surgeon to cut out the hemorrhoid. The surgery doesn’t cause any risk to the patient, as long as the patient applies the right fiber diet afterwards.
The next method is haemorrhoidopexy. This procedure is less painful, yet requires the patient to visit the doctor regularly after the surgery. Haemorrhoidopexy is the stapling procedure of the anorectum, in order to avoid excessive blood supply to the haemorrhoids.
Both procedures are actually safe, though patients have to pay attention to certain restrictions like soaking in warm water, taking antibiotics and avoiding straining during the bowel movements. Definitely, high-fiber consumption is strongly recommended.
So we cure our hemorrhoids – but what will prevent them from coming back?
How to prevent hemorrhoids from coming back?
We presented here a variety of effective ways to treat hemorrhoids – some of them natural and some of them require medical assistance, but no matter how successful your treatment will be,
if we will not take the necessary steps and change our lifestyle, the hemorrhoids will return. So Here are a few lifestyle changes we need to do, to keep the hemorrhoids away:
Keep Personal Hygiene
Poor hygiene contributes to irritation, itching and potential complications. Damaged or inflamed hemorrhoids tissue is susceptible to infection from bacteria present I fecal matter. You should keep this area relatively clean to lower any risk of complications.
The presence of moisture from liquid stools, anal perspiration, or diarrhea can cause further itching or irritation. Certain non-diet factors such as skin disease or yeast infection can aggravate the tissue and cause complications. It’s important to keep anal area clean to prevent such complications.
Plenty of Exercise
Exercise can help keep your colon more regular. Mayo Clinic suggests 30 to 40 minutes a day of moderate aerobic exercises (taking a brisk walk), to stimulate bowels and keep regular. Moderate exercise regimes such as swimming or yoga are also helpful. However, it is important to avoid activities that increase straining (such as weightlifting) or abdominal pressure, as this could lead to formation of hemorrhoids. By staying active, it’s possible to reduce time spent putting pressure on veins in lower rectum.
Take High Fiber Diet (As we mentioned before)
Hemorrhoids are more common with people who have irregular bowel movements. One of the easiest ways to make your bowels more regular is by taking more fiber rich diet. Try to consume at least 30-40 grams of fiber per day. The good sources of fiber are lentils, split peas, lima beans, black beans, whole grains, bran flakes, Brussels sprouts, apples, pears, raspberries, and bananas. You can also consult your doctor on benefits of taking fiber supplements. It’s also important to listen to your body and avoid foods that irritate your bowels, such as gluten or dairy products.
Don’t Keep The Stool
When you feel urge to go, you should go. This is the simplest way to prevent hemorrhoids. If you obey your body when it screams at you, chances are problems will be less. Holding your poo for long can make it hard and hard inside your bowels, making it difficult to push out. When you keep on waiting until you have time to move your bowels, there is a higher chance of straining.
Are you having difficult bowel moments? Are you having irrelevantly long periods without dropping of? You might be suffering from constipation. Constipation is a condition caused by lack of enough fiber and fluids in your diet. It prevents frequent removal of stool hence making a pile that turns out to be so hard and dry. This causes pain during the infrequent bowel moments. it is therefore important to understand it’s causes and symptoms in order to know how to get rid of constipation.
Constipation can be caused by diet mistakes in most cases such as; irregular meals, interrupting a routine diet, not including adequate fluids in your diet or generally not consuming roughages. Roughages mostly contain fibers that helps during digestion, making the remains soft and easily disposable. Consuming a lot of dry substances can also cause to irregular stool disposal.
Apart from diet, constipation can also be caused by lack of exercise activities or resisting bowel moments due to either lack of privacy or maybe not being at the right place. This can result in painful disposals and you might end up picking some bloody contents in your stool.
Pregnancy and depression can also cause constipation. During pregnancy period, the weight of the baby might hinder proper digestion hence leading to disposal of a lot of package. This might make it difficult during the toilet moments.
The most common symptom of constipation is the swollen bowel, it comes with a feeling of excess gas in your belly. This condition might so uncomfortable and is featured with release of a lot of gas.
Another symptom of constipation is lack of frequent bowel moments. More than three days without having a disposal moment is abnormal. This can lead to accumulation of a lot of wastes making it dry and hard to excrete.
A bad breath can also suggest signs of constipation. As a result of excess accumulation of stool in the rectum, wastes will keep on piling in the intestines and can lead to a bad breath in a person.
In more serious conditions, constipation can cause vomiting. This is due to the fact that disposal has been delayed there making the stomach to be overloaded.
Disorder in the bowel moments are also symptoms of constipation, cases of abdominal pains and feeling stomach disorder can be its signs.
Elimination of constipation
Consuming foods rich in fiber can be one of the best way of easily eliminating constipation or hemorrhoids. Vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, spinach, carrots etc., are so important in your diet.
