Long Time on the toilet One of the main causes of hemorrhoids is experiencing repeated strenuous bowel movement. This may be as a result of severe diarrhea; chronic or acute, or constipation. This is mostly characterized by sitting for long intervals in the toilet when passing stool. Such straining interferes with the blood flow in the anal region and as a result, the pools around the anus or it can as well enlarge the anal vessels.

Pregnancy Pregnancy has also been found to cause hemorrhoids in this sense, during pregnancy, the enlarged uterus places a lot of pressure on the rectum and the anus thus affecting the veins around the anal region. The increased pressure in the rectum may lead to bleeding when passing out stool and if the condition is severe, it is associated with pain. During pregnancy, most women get constipated due to the changes in the normal digestion and metabolism and this may expose them to dangers of contracting hemorrhoids. Hormonal changes in women during pregnancy have also been found to weaken the muscles that support the anus and the rectum.

Age. Age is another common cause of hemorrhoids. Also, age 50 is considered the age at which the occurrence  of hemorrhoids increases. The reason is the weakening of various tissues in the body, causing among other things an increase in the development of hemorrhoids.

Diet Deficiency of fiber in the diet has also been proved to be one of the main causes of hemorrhoids. Low fiber diet leads a person to experience strenuous bowel movement and this increases the pressure placed on the veins around the anal area. This can lead to swelling or even lumps in the anal region. Fiber in the diet reduces chances of constipation.

Spinal injuries Patients suffering from spinal injuries lack an erect posture and this condition has been medically proved to have big effects on bowel movement leading to hemorrhoids. This is one of the medical conditions that is classified among the main causes of hemorrhoids.

Over the counter medicine

Musk Ointment

This ointment originates from China and it contains 7 traditional herbs namely; calamine, borax, amber, borneol, musk, artificial bezoars and pearl. It works by removing all the toxic materials from the anal area and clears away the decayed tissues while stimulating the growth of new ones and in effect, the inflammation shrinks. It also alleviates the pain associated with hemorrhoids by lubricating the dry skin around the anal area, thus facilitating bowel movements.

Lidocaine Ointment

This is a local anesthetic that is used for pain relief. The ointment works by blocking the charged sodium channels that occur inside the cell membranes of the anal nerves, thus offering relief by blocking the transmission of pain at the skin before the pain can reach the nerves. In a nut shell, it works by numbing the nerves around the anal area so that the pain is manageable.

Anusol is a little bit different from many hemorrhoid ointments, especially with regards to its application. This corticosteroid is often applied topically and is mainly used to reduce the rashes and the burning sensation associated with hemorrhoids through its key agent, hydrocortisone. This agent mainly works by shrinking the inflamed veins associated with hemorrhoids and the shrinkage is escalated though the action of astringents such as bismuth oxide, bismuth subgallate and zinc oxide, all of which are included.

Other Medications

There is a wide range of medications that have been recommended for hemorrhoids and we probably cannot exhaust the list. Perhaps what we should mention here is that most of these drugs can be obtained easily over the counter.

Here is just a list of some you might want to check out – Anucort-HC rectal, Analpram-HC rectal, Proctosol HC rectal, Proctofoam HC rectal among many more.

Kick hemorrhoids for good by use of these ointments and medications. Just a point of advise – be sure to check the reviews of these drugs should you want to buy them online and be sure to follow a prescription from a certified health professional.

Medical Surgery

If all the other methods doesn’t work or the situation gets worse (fiver), you may have to consider medical surgery.

There are two kinds of hemorrhoids surgery. The first one is Haemorrhoidectomy. This is the safest and the most common form of surgery. The surgery requires the surgeon to cut out the hemorrhoid. The surgery doesn’t cause any risk to the patient, as long as the patient applies the right fiber diet afterwards.

The next method is haemorrhoidopexy. This procedure is less painful, yet requires the patient to visit the doctor regularly after the surgery. Haemorrhoidopexy is the stapling procedure of the anorectum, in order to avoid excessive blood supply to the haemorrhoids.

Both procedures are actually safe, though patients have to pay attention to certain restrictions like soaking in warm water, taking antibiotics and avoiding straining during the bowel movements. Definitely, high-fiber consumption is strongly recommended.

So we cure our hemorrhoids – but what will prevent them from coming back?

How to prevent hemorrhoids from coming back?

We presented here a variety of effective ways to treat hemorrhoids – some of them natural and some of them require medical assistance, but no matter how successful your treatment will be,
if we will not take the necessary steps and change our lifestyle, the hemorrhoids will return. So Here are a few lifestyle changes we need to do, to keep the hemorrhoids away:

Keep Personal Hygiene

Poor hygiene contributes to irritation, itching and potential complications. Damaged or inflamed hemorrhoids tissue is susceptible to infection from bacteria present I fecal matter. You should keep this area relatively clean to lower any risk of complications.

The presence of moisture from liquid stools, anal perspiration, or diarrhea can cause further itching or irritation. Certain non-diet factors such as skin disease or yeast infection can aggravate the tissue and cause complications. It’s important to keep anal area clean to prevent such complications.

Plenty of Exercise

getting rid of hemorrhoids

Exercise can help keep your colon more regular. Mayo Clinic suggests 30 to 40 minutes a day of moderate aerobic exercises (taking a brisk walk), to stimulate bowels and keep regular. Moderate exercise regimes such as swimming or yoga are also helpful. However, it is important to avoid activities that increase straining (such as weightlifting) or abdominal pressure, as this could lead to formation of hemorrhoids. By staying active, it’s possible to reduce time spent putting pressure on veins in lower rectum.

Take High Fiber Diet (As we mentioned before)

Hemorrhoids are more common with people who have irregular bowel movements. One of the easiest ways to make your bowels more regular is by taking more fiber rich diet. Try to consume at least 30-40 grams of fiber per day. The good sources of fiber are lentils, split peas, lima beans, black beans, whole grains, bran flakes, Brussels sprouts, apples, pears, raspberries, and bananas. You can also consult your doctor on benefits of taking fiber supplements. It’s also important to listen to your body and avoid foods that irritate your bowels, such as gluten or dairy products.

Don’t Keep The Stool

When you feel urge to go, you should go. This is the simplest way to prevent hemorrhoids. If you obey your body when it screams at you, chances are problems will be less. Holding your poo for long can make it hard and hard inside your bowels, making it difficult to push out. When you keep on waiting until you have time to move your bowels, there is a higher chance of straining.
